Microsoft 365 (MS365) Administration is a technical discipline responsible for the configuration, security, and day-to-day operation of the organization's Microsoft 365 tenant. The MS365 Administrator manages tenant settings, licensing, and security/compliance policies to ensure a secure, reliable, and cost-effective cloud productivity environment. This role partners closely with Security and end users to resolve escalated issues, enforce access and conditional access controls, and remediate audit findings, delivering consistent and dependable support across Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage Microsoft 365 tenant configuration, including domains, service settings, and overall tenant health.
  • Administer licensing assignments and usage across the MS365 suite, optimizing allocation and cost.
  • Configure and maintain security and compliance policies, including data loss prevention (DLP), retention, and information protection.
  • Configure and maintain Conditional Access policies to enforce secure, compliant access across the tenant.
  • Resolve escalated end-user tickets for Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive.
  • Administer identity and access management changes in Entra ID (Azure AD), including user/group lifecycle, role assignments, and group policy.
  • Implement and maintain MS365 security controls, including MFA, Defender for Office 365, and Secure Score recommendations.
  • Partner with the Security team on MS365-related audit findings, driving remediation to closure.
  • Monitor tenant health, license utilization, and service incidents via the Microsoft 365 admin center, escalating to Microsoft support as needed.
  • Support user onboarding and offboarding, ensuring timely and accurate provisioning and de-provisioning of accounts and licenses.
  • Document configuration changes, standard operating procedures, and knowledge base articles for the support team.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams on MS365 upgrades, migrations, and new feature rollouts.

Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 architecture, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive.
  • Knowledge of identity and access management concepts, including SSO, MFA, conditional access, and role-based access control.
  • Knowledge of security and compliance frameworks, including DLP, retention policies, information protection, and audit logging.
  • Knowledge of ITSM ticketing, escalation, and change management processes.

  • Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate (SC-300) preferred.
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Security Administrator Associate (MS-500/SC-401) a plus.

Experience

  • 2 - 3 years of experience administering Microsoft 365 tenants, including Exchange Online, Entra ID (Azure AD), and MS365 security/compliance tooling required.
