About AI Training and Scientific Document Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. People create, review, and evaluate examples that help AI models understand complex tasks, follow workflows, and produce reliable results.

In this assignment, scientific and technical documents become structured assets for benchmarking AI models on desktop engineering and scientific software. Your work will define realistic, reproducible examples of what correct research and document production looks like.

  • Support the evaluation of AI systems through realistic scientific workflows.
  • Turn complex research materials into reproducible, publication-standard documents.
  • Contribute to a fast-growing field where expert human judgment shapes AI.

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Scientific LaTeX Technical Writer to create reusable templates and realistic document assets for AI benchmarking environments. You will work with research materials, bibliographic references, and multi-author publications to produce internally consistent documents and explain why the results are correct.

This is a remote contractor assignment for five weeks. The engagement requires 40 hours per week, including at least four hours of PST overlap, and is suited to an experienced scientific or technical writer with advanced LaTeX skills.

What You'll Do

You will create document repositories and supporting assets that demonstrate humanly achievable, correct outcomes. The work combines technical writing, mathematical typesetting, bibliography management, document generation, and clear communication with engineering teams.

You will also explain correctness in typeset documents and citation graphs without writing scoring code, incorporate feedback, and collaborate with cross-functional teams in an asynchronous remote setting.

  • Map an application's supported inputs, important operations, and exports in a structured format.
  • Build multi-file LaTeX document repositories with internally consistent content.
  • Create BibTeX citation databases, custom .cls and .sty packages, and TikZ vector diagrams.
  • Complete reference tasks that demonstrate humanly achievable and correct results.
  • Document prompts, workflows, and asset metadata clearly for engineering teams.

  • Incorporate feedback while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Required Qualifications

The role requires professional experience creating scientific or technical content and a strong command of LaTeX-based document production. You should be able to work independently, communicate clearly, and manage detailed deliverables reliably in an asynchronous environment.

The listing calls for at least five years of professional research and technical writing experience, along with professional expertise in scientific or technical writing or academic publishing.

  • At least five years of professional research and technical writing experience.
  • Professional expertise in scientific or technical writing or academic publishing.
  • Fluency in LaTeX syntax, mathematical typesetting, and bibliography management.
  • Proficiency in at least two of Zotero, TeXStudio, and ShareLaTeX or Overleaf.
  • Ability to explain why a typeset document or citation graph is correct.
  • Clear written English and strong communication skills.
