About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building modern artificial intelligence. Legal experts help improve AI systems by evaluating generated answers, identifying reasoning errors, and creating high-quality examples that teach models to be more accurate, clear, complete, and responsible.

  • Remote work that can fit around other professional commitments
  • A chance to apply legal judgment to emerging AI systems
  • Work focused on evaluation, text generation, and question answering

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Legal AI Response Reviewer to assess AI-generated legal answers and create expert legal content. You will examine accuracy, clarity, completeness, issue spotting, rule application, citation quality, legal risk, assumptions, and procedural steps.

This is hourly contractor work in a remote setting for legal professionals who can turn complex legal reasoning into accurate, useful model outputs. The role requires a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week and pays between $40 and $120 per hour.

  • Employment type: Part-time contractor
  • Schedule: 20+ hours per week
  • Pay: $40-$120 USD per hour
  • Primary data type: Text
  • Languages: English, minimum C1 proficiency

What You'll Do

You will combine legal research, analysis, drafting, and quality review to help produce dependable training data for AI systems. Careful attention to legal nuance is essential, especially when reviewing outputs that may sound confident but contain incomplete or misleading guidance.

  • Review and compare AI-generated legal responses for correctness, reasoning quality, and prompt adherence
  • Identify weaknesses in legal reasoning, rule application, procedural steps, and risk handling
  • Fact-check legal concepts and citations when needed
  • Write model answers, explanations, checklists, policies, and memos that demonstrate strong legal analysis
  • Evaluate outputs for misleading certainty, confidentiality risk, bias, and internal consistency
  • Consider differences between consumer and business contexts
  • Simplify complex legal issues for non-legal audiences when appropriate

Required Qualifications

This listing is categorized as entry level, but the role itself requires substantial legal experience and professional qualifications. Applicants should be able to conduct independent legal analysis, work with primary authority, and draft with precision and appropriate tone.

  • At least 5 years of professional legal practice
  • Strong issue-spotting and structured legal analysis skills
  • Experience in one or more areas such as contracts, employment, privacy, corporate law, litigation, intellectual property, real estate, or compliance
  • Strong research skills using primary authority, including statutes, regulations, and cases
  • Excellent drafting and editing skills
  • Minimum C1 English proficiency
  • Prior experience with AI data training, legal quality assurance, editorial review, or knowledge management is strongly preferred

Who Should Apply

This opportunity suits attorneys and lawyers who enjoy evaluating complex answers, finding subtle weaknesses, and explaining legal concepts clearly. It may be a strong fit for experienced freelance experts seeking flexible, high-value work at the intersection of law and AI.

You should also be comfortable handling confidentiality concerns in remote legal workflows and assessing whether an answer appropriately communicates uncertainty, risk, and procedural requirements.

  • Experienced legal practitioners with strong judgment and attention to detail
