As we continue to invest in our greenkeeping team and operations, we are seeking an experienced <strong>Deputy Head Greenkeeper</strong> to work closely with our Head Greenkeeper in maintaining and developing this historic course to the standard our members and visitors expect.<br><br><strong>THE ROLE <br><br></strong>Are you passionate about sports turf, the outdoors, and the environment? St. Mellons Golf Club is seeking an enthusiastic and hard-working individual to join us as <strong>Deputy Head Greenkeeper.<br><br></strong>As <strong>Deputy Head Greenkeeper,</strong> you will work hand in hand with our Head Greenkeeper to manage daily operations and lead our dedicated greenkeeping team. You will play a crucial role in planning and delivering the course's turf maintenance programme, ensuring the course remains immaculate for our members and visitors. In the Head Greenkeeper's absence, you will take full responsibility for directing the team and managing the estate.<br><br>We welcome applications from people of all genders and backgrounds, and are actively working to build a more diverse greenkeeping team. Women remain significantly underrepresented in greenkeeping across Wales and the UK, and we'd love to hear from you.<br><br><strong>Key Responsibilities<br><br></strong><ul><li>Supervision: Organise staff rotas, delegate daily tasks, and support the training and motivation of the team. Deputise for the Head Greenkeeper in their absence, taking full responsibility for the greenkeeping team and course operations.</li><li>Team Leadership: Lead the turf maintenance programme across greens, tees, fairways, rough, bunkers and surrounds, ensuring work is carried out to a consistently high standard.</li><li>Course Presentation: Supervise daily preparation, cutting schedules, and general maintenance across the course to ensure premier playing conditions.</li><li>Agronomy & Turf Care: Diagnose pests, weeds, or turf diseases and execute appropriate cultural or chemical treatments.</li><li>Project Support: Assist in structural improvement projects including bunker remodelling, tee reconstructions, and drainage implementation.</li><li>Machinery & Systems: Oversee the safe operation, calibration, and routine upkeep of modern turf-care machinery and automated irrigation equipment.</li><li>Health & Safety: Maintain rigid adherence to club safety protocols, risk assessments, and COSHH regulations.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Candidate Requirements<br><br></strong><ul><li>General: Team player with a strong work ethic, flexible and proactive (can-do) approach, including a willingness to work early mornings, weekends and additional hours as required to deliver “competition”- level course preparation.</li><li>Qualifications: NVQ Level 3 in Sports Turf Management or equivalent qualification/experience.</li><li>Certifications: Hold a valid UK Driving Licence, Valid PA1, PA2, and PA6 spraying certificates (or equivalent).
