Class Teacher - part-time (2-3 days) - Year 6 in the first instance - Come and join our Dream Team!

Are you kind, curious and ambitious? Are you passionate about primary education?

Oakwood is a 1.5 form of entry maintained primary school community in St Albans. We were delighted to be graded as "Good" by Ofsted across all areas in June 2024. Ofsted noted that "Adults empower pupils and there is mutual respect for everyone. Pupils like the many ‘golden’ rewards available and behave well. The school is mindful of staff well-being and workload. Staff are positive about working here."

We pride ourselves on embodying our core school values of kindness, curiosity and ambition within our broad and balanced curriculum. We have a wonderful community of children, staff, parents and governors and we are looking for an exceptional and experienced Year 6 teacher to join our team from January 2027, although we could have flexibility on the start date for the right candidate.

This vacancy has arisen due to our plans to provide additional release time for existing staff. This role will be in Year 6 in the first instance. There is flexibility on whether this would be a 2 or 3 day role and which days of the week, although we would ideally be looking for someone to work at the start of the week.

  • Has the ability to inspire colleagues and pupils, by having highly effective interpersonal skills

  • Is passionate about improving learning and wellbeing for all groups of pupils and forging effective partnerships with parents in order to achieve this

  • Is keen to expand their knowledge, skills and understanding of learning and pedagogy in order to grow and develop as a practitioner.

Please state any areas of curriculum expertise and interest.

We can offer you:

  • eager, motivated pupils who are proud of their school

  • a friendly, ambitious and supportive staff team

  • opportunities for continuing professional development

  • a school committed to an inclusive, child-centred therapeutic approach

  • a supportive leadership team committed to work-life balance

  • engaged, knowledgeable and supportive parents and governors
