Caregiver for Elderly Female with Dementia

We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Domestic Helper to join our family in providing care for my 90-year-old mother, who is living with dementia. While there are rare occasional moments when she may feel distressed (which can be managed or avoided), most times are filled with calm and good nature.

My mother walks at a slow pace and is at a high risk of falls, making your role essential in ensuring her safety. Together with another helper and myself, we will collaboratively provide comprehensive care. This includes offering companionship through conversation, listening to her stories, assisting with personal hygiene activities, ensuring her safety during walks, preparing her meals, and maintaining a tidy living environment. Additionally, since she will need assistance during the night, we will rotate to sleep with her 2 or 3 nights a week to ensure her safety and to help her clean up after toileting.

We highly value a positive attitude, a calm demeanor, and a compassionate personality, as these traits are crucial when caring for an elderly person with dementia. Having plenty of patience, strong problem-solving skills, and, most importantly, a playful sense of humor will significantly contribute to your success in this role.

This position is not suitable for individuals who are impatient or easily affected by emotional situations and her own emotions because maintaining a calm and rational approach is essential for effective caregiving.

While my mother has some understanding of English, it is important for you to either speak or be willing to learn basic conversational Mandarin. This will facilitate engaging interactions and provide her with comfort, as she feels most at ease communicating in Mandarin based on her experiences with previous caregivers.

I hold a master's degree in nursing with certification as an emergency nurse and a bachelor's degree in psychology, along with advanced certifications in nutrition, elderly care, medical exercise, fitness, and self-defense. If you have a passion for learning, you will have this rare opportunity to receive the proper training from a healthcare professional and gain a wealth of knowledge from my experiences and the latest science. If mutual courtesy, respect, gratitude, and doing your job with professionalism resonate with you, we can establish a great working relationship, and you can expect generous rewards and benefits throughout your employment with me.
