Accountant
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Accountant to join our team in Jamaica. The Accountant is responsible for supporting the effective management of the Finance & Corporate Governance team in Jamaica, through the preparation of accurate financial information, regulatory reporting, budget support, audit coordination, and oversight of daily accounting operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly management accounts, financial reports, and variance analyses to provide accurate and timely insights into business performance.
- Ensure the integrity of financial records by overseeing general ledger activities, journal entries, account reconciliations, and bank reconciliations.
- Support the preparation of annual financial statements and ensure compliance with IFRS, regulatory requirements, and internal accounting policies.
- Coordinate statutory and regulatory reporting requirements, ensuring all filings are completed accurately and within established deadlines.
- Work closely with auditors, regulators, actuaries, tax authorities, and other external stakeholders during audits, reviews, and compliance activities.
- Assist with the development, monitoring, and analysis of annual budgets and forecasts, providing recommendations to support informed business decisions.
- Maintain effective financial controls and identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and operational efficiencies.
- Oversee fixed asset accounting, including asset capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and periodic asset verification activities.
- Support financial projects, system enhancements, process improvement initiatives, and ad hoc reporting requirements.
- Assist the Manager, Finance with the day-to-day operations of the Finance function and contribute to the development of accounting policies and procedures.
- Supervise, coach, and develop finance team members, ensuring work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with established standards and timelines.
Job Requirements
- Certified Accountant (e.g., ACCA, CPA, etc.) Professional Accounting Degree or equivalent qualification
- Knowledge of the Financial Services regulatory environment
- Knowledge of accounting software applications
- Computer Literacy – e.g., Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Minimum five (5) years relevant Accounting Experience
- Two (2) years at Supervisory level
